5 characters who should join Warner Bros. platform fighter MultiVersus

Who do you want to see join the MultiVersus roster?

It’s been a couple weeks since Warner Bros. officially announced their upcoming platform fighter MultiVersus. The free-to-play game will feature a wide variety of characters owned by Warner Bros.— from Batman to Bugs Bunny. Developer Player First Games and publisher Warner Bros. Games both have ambitions for this title to become a live service that players can enjoy for years.

As a result, the game’s director Tony Huynh announced in the official reveal that, over time, the developers will consistently add new characters. Huynh added that there are no limits on who they can add (well apart from WB owning the license of course). So, as we continue to anticipate further updates on the game’s status, we thought it would be fun to share five Warner Bros.-owned characters who would make welcome additions to MultiVersus.

Grim (The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy)

Grim

If you’re anything like me, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy was a huge part of your childhood. Currently, MultiVersus already has some iconic modern Cartoon Network characters in its roster like Finn the Human, Jake the Dog and Steven Universe. They also have some awesome classic cartoon characters like Tom and Jerry, and Bugs Bunny.

But as far as I’m concerned, the cartoons from the mid-2000s deserve some more recognition. And that’s where Grim comes in. Billy & Mandy’s take on the Grim Reaper stands out to me as one of the top cartoon characters of my childhood. And since MultiVersus is making it a point to bring back popular voice actors, his inclusion in the game could also mean Greg Eagles reprising his role. Just imagine the nostalgia of hearing the loveable incarnation of death’s Jamaican accent again.

Another reason Grim would make a great fit for MultiVersus is the adaptability of his powers for gameplay. For standard attacks, Grim could make use of his scythe, slashing at opponents. Special attacks could include his various supernatural abilities that can play as homage to the TV series. And as MultiVersus is already shaping up to become the game that delivers the dream fights we never knew we wanted, a fight between Grim and Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty could prove to be a unique matchup. Both have the ability to open up portals to different dimensions, which could make for a one-of-a-kind battle.

Beetlejuice

Beetlejuice (Beetlejuice)

Take a deep breath, and… Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice! If you read that out loud, you may want to look around and make sure Michael Keaton didn’t enter your room. However, I do hope he enters the roster of MultiVersus.

The titular character from this classic Tim Burton film would definitely be a change of pace from the lineup so far. But hey, they did say anything’s possible, right? The mischievous ghost and self-proclaimed bio-exorcist is one of the most iconic characters in ’80s cinema.

In addition to his comically rude personality, Beetlejuice’s bizarre powers would be very fun to exploit in gameplay. The developers could translate his abilities to teleport, shapeshift and warp reality into some truly unique special attacks that pay homage to the film.

Courage (Courage the Cowardly Dog)

Courage

Cartoon Network’s Courage the Cowardly Dog is a classic show that left a mark on many of our childhoods. For some, that means laughing when remembering Eustace say, “Stupid dog, You made me look bad!” For others, the mark may take the form of repressed memories of traumatic scars from viewing the likes of Spirit of the Harvest Moon. Yeah, that was nightmare fuel for kids.

Regardless, Courage is a standout character from Warner Bros.’ library who should definitely appear in MultiVersus. Although he might not have as many cool abilities as the last two characters on this list, Courage would still be a blast to play as. One special attack the developers could include is his iconic yell. Although he does this scream out of fear, the move is still powerful and could play nicely as a ranged attack to push enemies back with soundwaves.

Additionally, Courage would pair nicely with other characters in the game. As discovered this year in the crossover movie (which I’ve been saying needs to happen since I was seven), Courage the Cowardly Dog and Scooby-Doo make a great team. And as Shaggy is already a confirmed character, his canine companion will surely follow. Teaming the two nervous dogs in matches should surely make for some interesting battles. Although, to be honest, it’s worth adding Courage simply to hear him say, “The things I do for love,” after winning a fight.

Neo (The Matrix)

Neo

The popularity of actor Keanu Reeves is at an all-time high with the beloved action series John Wick. However, nobody can forget about his other iconic role as the protagonist of The Matrix Neo. With the popular action sci-fi series getting a new, highly anticipated sequel, adding Neo to MultiVersus is a no-brainer.

Because the world of The Matrix exists within a simulated reality, placing Neo in this video game wouldn’t be too out of place. In addition, he could offer some unique moves to gameplay, such as slowing down time or warping reality. Neo’s unique abilities to both deny and control the Matrix could offer up a fresh playstyle.

One example of how he could play comes from the scene when he stops a barrage of bullets simply by saying, “no.” In the game, Neo could be able to temporarily freeze charging opponents in similar style, offering him a moment to counter. Another ability players could use is that of phasing through physical objects within the Matrix. However, the developers would definitely need to nerf Neo a little bit or risk him completly altering the simulated reality of MultiVersus.

Sam & Dean Winchester (Supernatural)

No, adding two characters to the number five slot isn’t cheating. Anyone who’s watched Supernatural knows that Sam and Dean are inseparable. Sure, the brothers have their differences and often part ways, but within an episode or two, they hit the road together yet again. To do the characters justice in MultiVersus, their teamwork and family bond needs to be incorporated in the game.

With the likes of Tom & Jerry, the precedent is already set to have a duo act as a single character in MultiVersus. In the game, the two hunters could offer a unique playstyle that incorporates strategically using both to win fights. Armed with an arsenal of rock salt-shooting guns, silver blades and the iconic Colt, the Winchesters would be a force to be reckoned with in the game. The developers could even implement a powerful finishing move involving the famed Impala.

Another reason Sam and Dean would make great additions to MultiVersus is their diverse cast of rogues. Throughout 15 seasons, the hunters have taken on the likes of everything from vampires and werewolves to gods and demons. In their world, nothing is too weird for them to “gank.” In addition, like Courage the Cowardly Dog, the Winchester brothers already have a history with crossing over into other Warner Bros. properties in the form of the hilarious Scoobynatural episode from Season 13. Please Warner Bros., give Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles a reason to reprise their roles.
