5 guest characters who would be awesome in Mortal Kombat
With all the guest characters who have appeared in Mortal Kombat, here are five more we'd love to see in the iconic fighting game franchise!
Ever since bringing Elm Street’s own Freddy Krueger into Mortal Kombat 9, NetherRealm Studios began a tradition of bringing in characters from pop culture into the Mortal Kombat universe. From Jason Vorhees and Leatherface in Mortal Kombat X to The Terminator and Rambo in Mortal Kombat 11, there have been lots of fun guest characters over the years. Now, we already know some of the guest stars for the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1.
The first DLC pack will bring with it the likes of Homelander, Omni-Man and Peacemaker. In an interview, Boon explained he themed the DLC pack around R-rated superheroes. However, another leak suggests we may get other guest characters such as Harley Quinn and the Doomslayer. Though unconfirmed, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to imagine those characters in the game.
But with such a diverse, kast of guest characters across the Mortal Kombat games, the possibilities for new characters seem endless. So, here are five other cool characters who would be fun to play as in Mortal Kombat.
1. Michael Myers (Halloween)
Starting us off is the slasher icon Michael Myers. Though the faces of other iconic horror franchises like A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre already featured in previous entries, The Shape has yet to appear. Given how seamlessly characters like Freddy and Jason fit into the brutal gameplay of Mortal Kombat, I have no doubts Michael Myers would carve in well too.
Armed with his signature kitchen knife, Michael Myers would play well at a close range. He could also make use of some of his famous kills in the Halloween movies for his fatalities. Just imagine a fatality where Michael Myers pins his opponent to the wall with his knife. Though many rumors circulated for years about the character getting an appearance in the new game, it doesn’t seem likely we’ll get to see The Shape in a Mortal Kombat game for a while.
2. John Wick (John Wick)
Leaving the horror genre to the world of action movie icons, John Wick would also fit well in a Mortal Kombat game. The skilled hitman has an arsenal of deadly attacks, from both long and short range. Whether it’s hand-to-hand combat or firing a gun, Wick would have the capabilities to stand up against some of the best MK has to offer.
With ’80s action icons like The Terminator and Rambo already appearing in Mortal Kombat 11, it would be awesome to see a modern day action hero enter the game. And who wouldn’t want to see Keanu Reeves in another video game? He already appeared in Cyberpunk 2077, so let’s get him in another game.
3. Pennywise (It)
Going back to horror, let’s talk about why Pennywise would be a great addition to Mortal Kombat. The dancing clown from It is able to tap directly into peoples’ fears and shapeshift into all sorts of horrifying monstrosities. Tell me how that wouldn’t be insanely cool to see translated into a fighting game!
Pennywise could even have a fatality where he mutates into the giant spider-like creature to unleash a devastating blow. He could also unleash the deadlights as another powerful attack. Just imagining some of the pre-fight banter between Pennywise and an established MK character like Johnny Cage would be enough for me to hand NetherRealm my entire wallet.
4. Ash Williams (Evil Dead)
Could you even imagine a Mortal Kombat guest star groovier than Ash? I didn’t think so. Wielding his signature chainsaw hand and boomstick, Ash Williams would make an excellent fit inside the world of Mortal Kombat.
Unlike some characters on this list, the chances of seeing Ash in the game seemed rather high. So many leaks and rumors spread about him joining the roster for Mortal Kombat 11. However, his inclusion unfortunately never came to be. In fact, actor Bruce Campbell even dispelled rumors of the character appearing in the new game, following another string of rumors. Yet, I’m sure the right amount of money could change peoples’ minds.
5. Negan (The Walking Dead)
For diehard fans of fighting games, you may remember that Negan did in fact appear in the genre before. However, rather than the blood-soaked Mortal Kombat tournament, the villain from The Walking Dead showed up in Tekken 7. But just because the baseball bat-wielding killer already showed up in one fighting game franchise doesn’t mean he couldn’t also come to Mortal Kombat.
Actually, it’s arguable that Negan fits even better in Mortal Kombat than Tekken anyway. Mortal Kombat’s M-for-Mature rating would allow the leader of the Saviors to truly unleash his brutal nature. Just imagine a fatality similar to the scene where Negan smashes Glenn’s head in with Lucille in the show and comics.
