“A Dream Cast” documentary shows the consoles influences on eight game creators
This year will mark the 20th anniversary of the SEGA Dreamcast’s release in North America. Though the Dreamcast only lasted until 2001, the legacy of the console is still felt around the gaming community. Because of the landmark the Dreamcast will be making, a YouTube channel known as Archipel, uploaded a documentary discussing the consoles impact on eight different game creators.
Titled “A Dream Cast”, this two part documentary, clocking in over one hour and thirty minutes, talks to the eight creators on how they created the most iconic titles for the console, how the Dreamcast met its looming demise, and the legacy it created.
The eight are the following:
- Hiroshi Iuchi (Ikaruga)
- Kenji Kanno (Crazy Taxi)
- Masayoshi Kikuchi (Jet Set Radio)
- Rieko Kodama (Eternal Arcadia)
- Tetsuya Mizuguchi (Space Channel 5 / Rez)
- Tetsu Okano (Segagaga)
- Yoot Saito (Seaman)
- Hiroaki Yotoriyama (SoulCalibur)

The SEGA Dreamcast was launched in North America on September 9th, 1999. Though it saw praise from fans, the console could not compete with Sony’s PlayStation, Nintendo’s GameCube, and Microsoft’s Xbox. It was discontinued on March 31st, 2001.
