A ToeJam & Earl movie is apparently in the works
The official Twitter account for the series confirmed the movie, but didn't confirm any other details
Another beloved SEGA property is hitting the big screen — and it should be a funky ride this time. A movie adaptation of the Genesis classic ToeJam & Earl is apparently in the works at Amazon Studios.
Details first surfaced about the writers and production companies involved. Hotel Transylvania 4 writers Amos Vernon and Nunzio Randazzo are penning the script. On the producer’s side, Sonic the Hedgehog co-producer Dmitri Johnson’s new production company Story Kitchen is involved. Unanimous Media, the production company owned by Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry, is also on board.
Information about the movie is still under wraps, but the official ToeJam & Earl Twitter did confirm the announcement. See their Tweet below:
What we know about the ToeJam & Earl movie
Obviously, the ToeJam & Earl name means a lot to long-time SEGA fans. While not the most expected choice, it is a move that ultimately makes sense following the success of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies. Given its cult status and recent revival, not to mention the involvement of a legendary basketball player, ToeJam & Earl seems positioned as a solid next step for SEGA films.
The synopsis goes as you’d expect for a ToeJam & Earl project. It reads: “Earth, their legends tell them, is the Paradise where the music that created their culture originated. Unfortunately for our heroes, not only do they wreck their ship, but they find that Earth is . . . well, not the haven they expected. But the music – that part was true. So begins their quest to find as much of that music as they can in the hope of saving their planet, and maybe ours as well.”
Other details, such as cast and other crew, are not available yet. We’ll just have to wait for more news to break on this front.
