Atlus Announces Etrian Odyssey II Remake for 3DS
Atlus has announced that Etrian Odyssey II Untold: The Knight of Fafnir is in development for 3DS and will be released in 2014… in Japan (*collective groan*). The new release is a remake of Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard which was released on the original Nintendo DS.
This announcement follows the 2013 release of Etrian Odyssey Untold: the Millenium Girl on 3DS, which is a remake of the first game in the series. The 3DS enhancements included a full orchestral soundtrack, voice acting, and of course, 3D graphics, and we can likely expect similar treatment of Etrian Odyssey II Untold when it arrives.
In a statement made to our dear friends at the Imagine Games Network (that’s what only their dearest friends can call IGN), Atlus stated that there is nothing to announce regarding a US release at this time.
For those out of the know, Etrian Odyssey is a Japanese RPG series with a slightly cult following and is known for its pretty steep level of difficulty.
Each game in the series has been relatively well-received from a critical standpoint, the original Etrian Odyssey II on DS averaging a solid 82/100 on Metacritic (the one and only source for regurgitated video game journalism).
If you’d like to show Atlus your support for bringing the game to the west, or if you just want to try other games in the series, both Etrian Odyssey Untold: the Millenium Girl and Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan are available on the 3DS eShop for $39.99 and $29.99, respectively.
