Bayonetta series creator on Bayonetta 3: “We want to show it”
According to Bayonetta series director Hideki Kamiya, it's up to Nintendo on when they can show off the game.
When it was first announced at the Game Awards 2017, Bayonetta 3 sent fans of the series into a frenzy. The game is one of the most highly-anticipated Nintendo titles, and even though all we got was a teaser trailer, it was enough to make everyone go wild.
That’s what makes it so devastating that Nintendo and developer PlatinumGames have given us mostly radio silence on the game. Since the 2017 announcement, we’ve barely heard anything about the game beyond simple mentions and assurances that the game is still in development. In fact, aside from the small teaser trailer at the Game Awards, we haven’t seen anything on the title either.
The latest update, straight from series creator Hideki Kamiya, suggests that Bayonetta 3 is still being worked on. According to him, PlatinumGames is eager to show off the game but that it’s not up to them. It seems that decision’s (predictably) up to Nintendo rather than the developer.
What PlatinumGames and Nintendo have to say about Bayonetta 3
Video Game Chronicles reached out to Kamiya this month regarding whether or not we’ll see more Bayonetta 3 this year. Kamiya reiterated that it’s not up to PlatinumGames when they show it off, but they’re excited for people to see it.
As much as everyone is clamouring to see it, we are really, really waiting to release it too. Everyone who is working on the project is of course very proud of what we’re doing and wants everyone to see what we’re doing. As much as fans are waiting for it, we are waiting for the day when we can show it. We want everyone to cheer us on as we run to the final stretch.

Atsushi Inaba, head producer at PlatinumGames, added: “There’s no need to worry. Don’t worry about it at this time. Everything’s OK.” Not exactly the most reassuring statement, but there you go.
Representatives from Nintendo commented earlier this year in response to fan worries about the lack of information. In an interview with GameSpot in June, Nintendo of America senior localization director Nate Bihldorff responded to Tamoor Hussain’s questions on the state of Bayonetta 3 with “It definitely still exists, I can confirm it.” Bill Trinen, NOA’s senior product marketing manager, added that the project is progressing well.
We know that Bayonetta 3 is under development for the Nintendo Switch, but other details remain scarce. For now, though, we’ll have to wait for Nintendo’s go-ahead to see more of what the developers are cooking.
