Capcom finally announces the highly-anticipated Resident Evil 4 Remake!
Evil returns next March.
Although leaks and rumors circulated the web for a while now, it wasn’t until last night when Capcom made it official. We are going to get the highly-anticipated remake of Resident Evil 4! Capcom made the announcement through a horrifically beautiful cinematic trailer at last night’s State of Play. You can also watch it for yourself below!
Breaking down the Resident Evil 4 Remake trailer
As soon as the trailer starts, we’re immediately hit with the release date of March 24, 2023. Then, as the suspense builds, the Resident Evil 4 title slowly builds shape across the screen. The remainder of the trailer mixes cinematic cutscenes and gameplay captured on PlayStation 5.
As the story unfolds, we get brief glimpses of iconic locations and characters completely reimagined for modern-gen. Although a lot happens in such a short amount of time, the video excellently teases what fans can expect. Like Capcom’s remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3, the general story of Resident Evil 4 will generally stay in tact.
One noticeable difference is that the campiness of the original game appears to be gone in favor of a much darker, creepy tone. This decision may divide Resident Evil fans between those who loved RE4’s often cheesy elements. However, fans who prefer Resident Evil games when they’re at their most chilling will rejoice at the remake’s tonal shift.
Apart from that, the meat of Resident Evil 4’s narrative appears untouched. Just as in the 2005 original, Leon goes on a mission to Europe to rescue the president’s daughter Ashley. However, when he gets there, he must once again face evil head on in a mysterious village where horrors lurk around every corner.
Alongside Leon and Ashley, the trailer also gives us a very quick look at Ada Wong. Wong played an important role in the original game and even had special side content of her own. However, time will tell how she will factor into the remake.
Resident Evil 4 comes crawling out next year on March 24 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. For those who really want to get up close and personal with the infected villagers, it will also come to PlayStation VR2. Are you excited to revisit this defining horror title with revamped graphics and controls? As always, let us know your thoughts down in the comments!
