Chocobo GP, a Final Fantasy kart racing game, announced for release on Switch

Welcome to Chocobo's newest racing adventure, full of magic and mayhem!

Do you enjoy the wacky shenanigans in Mario Kart, where you bowl over your friends in pursuit of victory? Are you a fan of Final Fantasy? Combining kart racing games with the ever-lovable chocobos, Square Enix returns its Chocobo Racing series with Chocobo GP on Nintendo Switch.

What’s in store for the game?

Chocobo GP allows players to race as different Final Fantasy characters and creatures. Those familiar with the franchise may recognize characters such as the iconic Chocobo, Moogle, White Mage, and Black Mage. Other playable characters include summons such as Shiva, Ifrit, Gilgamesh, and Titan.

Using Magicite, with spells like Fire, Blizzard, Thunder, and Aero, players can battle their opponents to obtain victory. The game offers story mode, series races, time attack, and custom races. If you don’t have a friend to play with in person—no worries: the game offers an online multiplayer mode, which has a tournament contest for up to 64 players.

The original Chocobo Racing came out back in 1999. While they released a follow-up on Nintendo 3DS back in 2010, it was canceled after just three years. Now, the series returns with Chocobo GP, a fun, fast-paced kart racing game. After announcing it in the September Nintendo Direct, fans finally have a release date for the game.

When does Chocobo GP release?

Chocobo GP release date: March 10th, 2022.

Chocobo GP releases March 10th, 2022 for Nintendo Switch. Releasing on the same date, there will also be a free version called Chocobo GP Lite. The lite version allows players to try out single and multiplayer mode. It includes the story mode prologue and a limited set of characters for local and online play.

If you’ve never had the chance to play the Chocobo Racing series, the lite version offers an easy way to test things out. After giving it a chance, players can port over their save data into the main game if they want the full product. Fans of Final Fantasy and kart racing games won’t want to miss out on the charm Chocobo GP has to offer.
