Corey Marshall wants people to support Shenmue without his involvement
Corey Marshall says Shenmue needs the fans.
Last week, the newest trailer dropped for Shenmue the Animation. Although fans are excited for the nearing series debut, many wish Corey Marshall would reprise his role as Ryo Hazuki. In response, Marshall took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the Shenmue anime.
In the video, Marshall explains that he understands the disappointment fans feel towards his lack of involvement in the series. However, he continues by encouraging people to continue supporting the Shenmue brand. He states that it’s important for fans of the games to support the anime, as the new medium opens the door for a new audience.
The Shenmue community is more than just that. I feel that we’re kind of a family….In the game world, we have the Japanese version; we have the English version of the game, and now we have an anime version of the game. And that’s something special.

Marshall continue his statement by reiterating his wish for fans to love and support the anime. He elaborates that both the franchise and the game’s creator Yu Suzuki need the community’s support to keep the IP strong.
I want everybody to love and support Shenmue, and support Yu Suzuki because Shenmue needs you. Shenmue needs everybodyâall of the fans. And of course, we want to bring in as many new fans as possible.
