Duke Nukem Forever 2001 has leaked
Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d be writing about Duke Nukem Forever in 2022. And yet, I have a reason to today. Why do you ask? Apparently, someone on 4Chan has found a functioning and playable demo of Duke Nukem Forever 2001.
The poster going by “x0r’ shared screenshots, video, and code for an E3 2001 demo. This build was going to become Duke Nukem Forever. It was set for E3 2001 but mysteriously was a no-show. But now we have an actual playable build! You can check out some details below from the leaker.
Could Duke Nukem Forever 2001 have worked?
It’s pretty wild to see this version of Duke Nukem Forever. The game then went through development hell for years. Until 2011 when it was finally released to the world to a tepid response from players and fans. That’s putting it lightly.
Now taking a look at this, it seems like the game was going to be much different back in the day. It looks more in line with the previous games in the franchise. Whereas the 2011 version was catered to the FPS mechanics of the PS3/360 generation. For worse in my opinion. I truly think this version could have been a special entry in the series. But we’ll never know sadly.
Duke Nukem Forever is available on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. I wouldn’t advise playing it though if you value your free time. Hopefully one day Duke can come back properly. Maybe closer to how he was planned to in 2001. What do you think of the leak? Do you want to see the king return? Let us know in the comments below!
