This morning, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron’s director Sawaki Takeyasu announced the game will head to Switch.
El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is a biblical-inspired action game from 2011. Ignition Tokyo originally developed the game and released it for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Over the years, the game received a cult following, leading to a PC port via Steam last year.
Now, gamers on Switch will be able to experience the epic journey of God’s scribe Enoch. Takeyasu made the announcement in a YouTube video earlier today. In addition, he will reveal more details April 28, the game’s 11-year anniversary. You can watch the announcement video for yourself below.
About El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron
El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron follows the story of Enoch, a man chosen to become the scribe of God. In the game, Enoch must descend back to Earth to retrieve God’s secrets from seven fallen angels. Along with its unique story, the action-adventure game also received high praise for its Studio Ghibli-like art style.
Although the game is a lesser-known title from its era, fans hail its visuals and storytelling as far ahead of its time for 2011. In fact, the game won the Future Game of the Show award at the 2010 Tokyo Game Show and got a gold mention on the Internet Buzzword Awards that year as well.
Other unique features of the game include its organically changing world and its deep yet simple control scheme. In the game, there are only four inputs players can make: jump, attack, guard and weapon stealing. However, while it seems simple, the gameplay operates on time-based action, meaning the mechanics reward players for precision.
Currently, you can play El Shaddai on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or PC. If you’re interested in trying it out for PC, click here for the Steam link! In addition, the game will make its way over to Nintendo Switch. We’ll learn more information on April 28.
