Bethesda finally decided to ditch their Bethesda Launcher back in February. With this announcement came confirmation they’d migrate their games back to Steam. As the date for the Bethesda Launcher’s end comes closer, some of their games have been added back to Steam. This includes game series such as the Elder Scrolls franchise. And the best part? You can get some of them for free.
Elder Scrolls games of the past
Many classic Bethesda games added back on Steam include the Elder Scrolls franchise and its lesser-known spin-off titles.
What’s been added:
- The Elder Scrolls: Arena
- The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall
- The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard
- An Elder Scrolls Legend: Battlespire
- Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
Arena and the following sequel, Daggerfall, are now completely free to play for Steam users. Nothing suggests whether this move was intentional or not, so grab them now just to be safe if Bethesda changes their minds in the next few days. Steam users can also grab Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory for free. Its other games still cost money, but for rather low prices. Grab Redguard and Battlespire both for the low price of $5.99.
If you’ve always wanted to try out these older titles, now may be your chance to do so. These games have been around for awhile, so how well they’ve aged is up for debate. Still, there are always plenty of mods available to improve your Bethesda experience—that’s what makes Skyrim so fun, right?
When does the launcher shut down?
The Bethesda Launcher and store officially closes on May 11. Starting today, April 27, players can move their wallet funds and games over to Steam. Any further questions you have, Bethesda answers them in their Q&A about the game launcher shutting down. As the transition continues, be sure to grab these free games while they’re up and enjoy the old Elder Scrolls experience!
