Entire Yakuza team wants to try something else other than Yakuza
Something new on the horizon?
Ryu Ga Gotoku has been huge in the west with the release of Yakuza 0 in 2017. Over the past 3 years Yakuza creator Toshihiro Nagoshi and his team have wanted to try something new. In a Game Informer interview with Nagoshi, he said that the team wanted to stray away from the traditional formula and try something new.
“The Ryu Ga Gotoku team members, they’ve only really worked on the Yakuza series,” explains Nagoshi. “But I think it would be a waste if these really talented team members that we have aren’t able to use all of their skills to their full potential.”

Over the past 8 years the development team has produced 15 games, with only 3 of them not being a spinoff or a mainline title. Series producer Daisuke Sato has expressed interest in remaking popular Japanese only spin offs Yakuza Ishin and Yakuza Kenzan. If they decide to take the franchise into another direction let’s hope it’s as good as their prized franchise .
