Evercade announces Game of the Month feature for Evercade VS
Tapeworm Disco Puzzle kicks of the party tomorrow!
Yesterday, Evercade announced their new Game of the Month feature for Evercade VS. The feature will provide users 10 indie games throughout 2022 with a new addition every month. The first game, Tapeworm Disco Puzzle, arrives tomorrow!
From then on, the Evercade VS will provide a new indie game to players every month through a console update. For the duration of the month, players can enjoy the featured Game of the Month. Each game will be playable until the first full week of the next month. After that, it will be replaced with a new indie game following that month’s update.
Evercade parent company Blaze Entertainment highlights their excitement to showcase the hard work indie developers put into creating new games for retro hardware. In an official press release, the company adds that the new Game of the Month feature works in similar vein to their Indie Heroes Collection 1 cartridge.
These games are a great example of great new games that have been made for older hardware. Much like the Indie Heroes we’ve previously highlighted on our Indie Heroes Collection 1 cartridge.

In addition to the Evercade VS exclusive Game of the Month feature, Blaze Entertainment will also compile each month’s featured game into a physical collection. The Indie Heroes Collection 2 cartridge will launch towards the end of this year. Unlike the Game of the Month, the physical cartridge will not be exclusive to the VS console. Therefore, all Evercade users can enjoy the release.
Evercade VS fuels the competitive spirit of gaming
Along with Game of the Month, Evercade VS will also introduce another new feature in tomorrow’s update. Dubbed the name “Competition Mode”, players can activate the feature to disable save states. The purpose of this mode is to allow competitive players to “hone and perfect their one-shot speed runs or high score chases.”
In addition, this will allow gaming communities to organize contests while eliminating the ability for people to use save states unfairly. To enter Competition Mode, players can simply press “Y” instead of Start on the game selection screen. Blaze Entertainment also states the mode will work across the entire catalogue of available games including arcade collections.
The company also states that they added more secret games to Evercade VS. In addition to two secret games players can unlock with key combinations, players can find an additional title by using a specific secret cartridge combination.
The new update that brings Game of the Month and Competition Mode to Evercade VS drops tomorrow. Kicking off Game of the Month will be none other than Lowtek Games’ puzzle game Tapeworm Disco Puzzle. The company will announce each month’s new game one day before the update, so stay tuned!
Blaze Entertainment will also provide additional information on the second Indie Heroes collection, along with pre-order and release dates. Indie Heroes Collection 2 will compile all 10 of 2022’s Games of the Month into one physical cartridge.
