Ex-CD Projekt Red devs form new studio Rebel Wolves
The ex-Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 developers are working on a next-gen dark fantasy RPG.
A group of former CD Projekt Red developers have formed Rebel Wolves, a new game studio based out of Warsaw, Poland. Spearheaded by The Witcher III: Wild Hunt director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the team of eight developers are working on a brand new AAA role-playing game.
Tomaszkiewicz serves as the CEO and game director for the studio. Other team members include narrative director Jakub Szamalek, design director Daniel Sadowski, art director Bartlomiej Gawel, and animation director Tamara Zawada. All of them previously worked on The Witcher series and/or Cyberpunk 2077.
Details on the title they’re working on are scarce for the moment. We do know, however, that it’s a dark fantasy RPG for PCs and next-gen consoles. It’s also the first part of a planned saga. Needless to say, it’s an ambitious but enticing prospect from a group of industry veterans.
A look into the new Rebel Wolves studio
Rebel Wolves’ mission statement, according to its website, is two-fold. First: it wants to create a “quality-driven and innovative” RPG that revolutionizes the genre. Second: it wants to create a healthy environment for developers that’s “united by a common goal and sense of camaraderie.” Bold goals indeed, and it’ll be exciting to see if it can live up to those ambitions.
Tomaszkiewicz explains the rationale behind the studio and its vision below:
For all of us here at Rebel Wolves, video games were always something we felt destined to do – something ingrained in our DNA. Personally, I couldn’t be happier to have banded together with friends who share this passion. We’re developing a video game we’d like to play in a way that games should be made. We want to evolve the cRPG genre by creating unforgettable stories and stirring deep emotions, all while working as a tightly knit team united by a shared goal and ambition.

As for CD Projekt Red, they’re finishing up the next-gen versions for The Witcher III and Cyberpunk 2077. Both will launch later this year.
