Galaga sequel Gaplus becomes the newest Arcade Archives title
A month here at Mega Visions just wouldn’t be complete without another addition to HAMSTER Corporation’s Arcade Archives lineup. Reporting on this ever-growing catalog of classics from yesteryear has sort of become my personal burden to bear ’round these parts – so much so that I’ve rather run out of introductory gags to crack about it in the opening paragraph. Um. Oh, here’s one! When you click a tag on our site, it takes you a page titled ‘[Tag name] Archives.’ So, if you click on this one, you get a page called Arcade Archives… Archives. Fun, right? Yeah. Uh, I got nothin’.
I think I’d better stick to my day job – which isn’t actually this job, but I shall report nonetheless. As GamesPress announces, we now have yet another game under the AA banner; it’s Gaplus, the sequel to the quintessential space shooter classic, Galaga. You may be intimately familiar with the iconography of Midway’s sci-fi blast-em-up already, and especially with the little spaceship item from it which appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and beams you almost inescapably off the stage. Many a stock, and therefore a match, has been lost to it.
If, somehow, those experiences have not put you off playing Gaplus, here’s the skinny. Available now for Switch and PS4, this release brings the sequel bang (ish) up to date with a host of modern tweaks. It’ll cost you $7.99, and this is what the official description reads:
“GAPLUS is a shooter released by NAMCO (Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc.) in 1984. All the vehicles from GALAGA are back and powered up, as hinted at by the title “GAPLUS”! Steal back a BLASTER HEAD and launch a counterattack!”
Gaplus in your knowledge
Ah, NAMCO. Continuing the PROUD TRADITION of SHOUTING every other WORD, are we? Just to give you an IDEA how OBNOXIOUS that is, how about I FINISH the ARTICLE typing like THIS?
In this VERSION OF THE GAME, players can also CONNECT with their FRIENDS for SCORE SHARING and multiplayer ACTION. If, by some SERENDIPITOUS CHANCE, you know someone who’s also BOUGHT THE GAME, then by all means, FILL YOUR BOOTS.
HOW ABOUT YOU? Will you be picking up this release of GAPLUS? LET! US! KNOW!
