Recently, Rockstar finally officially announced Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition, the remaster of GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas. Long-rumored and all but officially confirmed until Rockstar’s post on Oct. 8, it celebrates the 20th anniversary of GTA III, the game that helped the series soar into popularity and helped kickstart the sandbox genre. Now, in the lead-up to its release, fans are clamoring for any info they can on the release.
Data miners, for example, recently uncovered the achievements for GTA Trilogy and posted them online. While most are the standard achievements you’d expect, Rockstar is being cheeky with a few of them.
alloc8or, a user on GTA Forums, posted a list of achievements from GTA Trilogy as a reply to a forum post on the game’s announcement. Detailing achievements for all three included games, many are carried over from previous next-gen ports of these titles. Many new ones, however, include memes and references to the GTA series that any fan can appreciate.
What’s up with the new GTA Trilogy achievements?
Anyone who’s had their finger on the pulse of Internet culture within the past few years will be familiar with some of the memes that have spawned from Grand Theft Auto over the years. Rockstar is fully aware of the memes as well and with this new release, the company’s decided to have a bit of fun with its audience.
Below are some examples of fun, referential GTA Trilogy achievements:
- GTA III: Got This Figured Out. Use a coach to pick up all 8 prostitutes in the mission “The Fuzz Ball”. This references a trick to make the mission a cakewalk by grabbing a bus. Most cars in GTA III can only hold three passengers at once, but by driving the Coach, a bus, you can carry all of the prostitues for this mission at once.
- GTA Vice City: Not My First Time. Complete the mission “G-Spotlight” without falling from the rooftops. The name is, of course, a tongue-in-cheek sexual reference — but also refers to how difficult the rooftop motorcycle jumps in this mission can be.
- GTA Vice City: Salutations My Little Friend. Use the M4 to take out Diaz during the mission “Rub Out”. Referencing the famous Scarface quote “say hello to my little friend.” Techincally, the gun used in the movie isn’t an M4, but let’s not split hairs.
- GTA San Andreas: I’ll Have Two Number 9s. Reach maximum weight. / With Extra Dip. Buy 8 meals from Cluckin’ Bell throughout the game. These allude to the famous “I’ll have two number nines” line from San Andreas that absolutely exploded in popularity. Godspeed, Big Smoke.
- GTA San Andreas: …Here We Go Again. Start a new game after getting 100% on a save file. Another GTA meme, this one coming from CJ in the game’s intro.
