Guns Undarkness is Persona composer Shoji Meguro’s new stealth RPG
After Shoji Meguro departed from Atlus, fans of the Shin Megami Tensei series’ sound composition were curious about his next step. At the indie Live Expo Winter 2021, Meguro announced his new project: Guns Undarkness. The game is an in-development stealth RPG that’ll release worldwide in English and Japanese for PC.
Guns Undarkness puts players in the bodies of essential mercenaries from the Private Military Company (PMC). Naturally, as mercenaries, you deal with opposition and manage a customizable unit. The team you command will fight against enemies within a realistic world of countries impacted by nuclear warfare. Also, the game has turn-based battles reminiscent of Valkyria Chronicles and Persona mixed together. You’ll find yourself sneaking into spaces to hide during infiltration missions, and the inevitable gunfights will ensue as you progress.
It’s rather interesting to speculate what type of game Meguro will make. As a composer, his work is legendary over the SMT games – but as far as game direction, his experience comes from earlier projects at Atlus. He was the director for Shin Megami Tensei: Persona for the PlayStation Portable and contributed to the underrated Trauma Center series.
With his background, it’s sure to be a solid project, but fans will have to wait and see how it unfolds. Interested in what Guns Undarkness will become? Let us know!
