Heritage Auction to sell large anime collection
On June 25th, 2021, anime and manga enthusiasts will have the chance to bid on one of the largest and most varied collections to ever come to auction. Hosted by Heritage Auction, the “The Art of Anime and Everything Cool” sale will include almost one-thousand artifacts from the Glad Anime Museum Collection.
Collector and film producer Mike Glad, who helped bring the manga Akira stateside in the 1980s, has amassed the largest private anime collection in the world. The works coming to auction are said to include animation cels, model sheets, figurines and more. Objects from well-known anime like Perfect Blue, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Ghost in the Shell will be included in the catalogue. Carl Thompson, animation and art cataloger at Heritage, promises “popular niche” objects as well (Fingers crossed for some Virtua Fighter cels, right! No? Anyone? Too niche?)
The top pick of the lot is apparently a cel from Akira, estimated to go for around USD $15, 000.00, but bidding for each item will start at just one dollar. Have you seen the Glad Collection before? What items would you like to see in the lot? The auction is set to start June 25th, 2021 at Heritage Auctions’ Dallas location. In the meantime, you can check out the Heritage Auctions website.
