House of the Dead on Vinyl to Hit Pre-Order Imminently
Ready those twitching, midnight-mouse-clicking fingers, all you ravenous SEGA fans. The pre-orders for the hotly anticipated vinyl release of the House of the Dead 1 and 2 OST are about to go live, and we all know what that means: crashed servers, endless refreshes, and inevitably some disappointment. Scalpers, jog on.
House of the Dead has always struck me as a bit of an odd duck in the pantheon of SEGA classics. Though it’s an arcade mainstay and certainly has earned its keep in terms of revenue, the company seems to feel a little bit embarrassed to acknowledge it when put next to some of their more family friendly output. Sonic can zoom and AiAi can roll, but headshotting zombies and blasting giblets everywhere does feel somewhat incongruous.
It’s to the point where, of all the SEGA IPs adapted into the All-Stars Racing games, HoTD is the only one not to be referred to by name, instead having its logo replaced with the track environment’s title, ‘Curien Mansion’. Come on, fellas. What are you afraid of? That kids are gonna Google or Wikipedia this ultraviolent, gory franch – oh, actually, yeah. Might be a problem.
Regardless, it’s nice to see some physical acknowledgment of this beloved franchise in the form of this vinyl release, which continues a pleasing, nostalgia-tickling trend of late. Take a gander at the Tweet below, which outlines the different timezone details.
In the official press release, the distributors, Cartridge Thunder, had this to say: “we are very excited to bring you The House of the Dead 1 + 2 vinyl soundtracks, produced under official license from SEGA! The House of the Dead 1 + 2 will be available individually in red and blue marble editions. These editions will also be available as part of a “Box Set,” which includes the hardcover, full-color slipcase with spot-gloss treatments.”
Incidentally, there’s even a special colour scheme available called ‘Curien Splatter’. Splattered with what? I’ll leave you to puzzle that one out.
So prepare your poor, suffering wi-fi router for the strain. It’s gonna be a rough night (well, a few minutes at best).
