HP agrees to purchase HyperX for $425M
The next time you buy a HyperX headset or mouse, there might be a big ol’ “HP” emblazoned on the logo. That’s because HP has agreed to purchase the popular gaming accessory maker in a $425 million purchase.
HP bought into the PC gaming market after growing 13 percent in 2020, after years of decline. The bump in growth was due to the demand for remote work and school during the Covid-19 pandemic. While the PC hardware Industry is speculated to grow to $70 Billion by 2023, the gaming peripherals are going to spike to $12.2 billion by 2024.
The press release states that even though the purchase is for the HyperX products, the DRAM, flash, and solid state drives will remain with Kingston. This makes HP the sole owner of the keyboards, mice, USB microphones and other gaming accessories in the library. By 2nd quarter 2021, we can expect more news regarding the new partnership between Hyper X and the OMEN, and Pavilion gaming lines of PCs.
