A new YouTube video by ermaccer showcases three Mortal Kombat-style Brutalities that almost made it into Injustice 2.
With each installment, NetherRealm Studios ups the ante for stylized violence and gore in their Mortal Kombat games. However, they tone down the blood for the DC Comics-themed Injustice games. Regardless, recently discovered animation scripts reveal that the developer had plans at one point to include MK-style Brutalities in Injustice 2.
The video shows off three unused Brutality animations for Aquaman, Supergirl and Superman. Each of the leftover animations are unfinished and were likely datamined from the game’s internal source code. Still, the moves show off some creative ideas NetherRealm considered for their second Injustice title.
Analyzing the unused Injustice 2 Brutalities
Although Aquaman’s Brutality doesn’t feature an animation for the king of Atlantis himself, it does show off his opponent’s reaction. In this case, Aquaman’s unlucky victim is none-other than Supergirl, who awkwardly flops on the ground in pain.
Speaking of Supergirl, her Brutality animation sees her launch Harley Quinn into the air. Quinn then hurtles back down and becomes embedded halfway into the ground, leaving her legs flailing about in the air.
Superman’s animation is also more fleshed out. In the video, Deadshot falls victim to the Brutality, in which the Man of Steel fires three beams of heat-vision at the marksman. Deadshot then seemingly incinerates and collapses. Although the Brutalities likely would have been toned down from what we see in Mortal Kombat, it’s interesting to see what could have been.
Meanwhile, fans continue to speculate what NetherRealm’s next project may be. Although the studio’s normal pattern would leave fans to believe their next game is Injustice 3, recent insights point otherwise. In fact, rumors suggest that the developer purposefully leaked that their next project will be Mortal Kombat 12.
What do you think of the unused Brutalities in Injustice 2? Do you wish NetherRealm would have left them in? Or would the violent finishers feel out of place in the DC Universe? As always, share your thoughts with us below!
