Kanye West once pitched a game to Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto

Miyamoto describes the game as, "very moving."

During E3 2015, famous rapper and former presidential candidate Kanye West reportedly pitched a game to Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto.

Former IGN employee and current Twitch lead community producer Zachary Ryan recently recounted Miyamoto’s telling of the story on Twitter. According to Ryan, Miyamoto shared the anecdote during a 2016 interview about Star Fox Zero. Ryan states that everything was standard until somebody mentioned Kanye West’s latest album.

Upon mentioning Yeezy, Miyamoto began detailing the humorous tale from 2015’s E3. According to Ryan’s retelling, Miyamoto states that West approached the Nintendo booth and requested to speak directly with Miyamoto himself. West proceeded to show Nintendo’s famed designer a prototype for game he was working on.

The game was titled Only One after the song West wrote in 2014 about his daughter North. In the game, players would control Kanye West’s mother Donda and help her travel through the gates of Heaven. In addition, the game would feature a soundtrack conducted by Kanye himself.

According to Ryan, as Miyamoto relayed the story, he nodded his head in amazement. The creator of some of Nintendo’s biggest hits was still surprised that West pitched him a video game. At the end of the story, he told Ryan that, “it was very interesting.” Afterwards, Miyamoto paused before continuing, “it was very moving.”

What ever happened to the Kanye West game?

Ultimately, Nintendo did not back Kanye West’s video game. However, West would continue to pursue Only One. In 2016, West publicly announced the game. You can watch the reveal below.
