Konami will announce a new game at Tokyo Game Show
It likely won't be related to Castlevania, Silent Hill or Metal Gear Solid
Earlier today, Konami unveiled its official Tokyo Game Show line-up. Although the list of confirmed titles primarily contains known titles, the publisher also states it will announce a special surprise.
The special announcement will take place on September 16 during a 45-minute show. Currently, the title of this vague showcase is simply, “Konami new release announced”. Apart from that, the description states that voice actor Yuji Kaji will be a guest on stage for the announcement.
Voice actor Yuji Kaji will be invited as a guest to represent the fans of a series which is loved all over the world, on the announcement stage for a new Konami title.

The wording in the description already has some gamers speculating about what franchise the new game may be part of. However, a publishing source for VGC told the news outlet the announcement likely won’t involve Castlevania, Silent Hill or Metal Gear Solid. Instead, the anonymous source suggest the announcement will involve a smaller series.
Konami has big plans in store
Although these three heavy hitters likely won’t be the surprise announcement at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, Konami is hard at work with new games for each of these franchises. Last year, anonymous sources told VGC that the publisher has multiple new games in development for each of these franchises. Overall, with last year’s massive restructuring within the company, signs point to a hopeful future for Konami.
Knowing that we likely won’t see much of these big three franchises at Tokyo Game Show 2022, however, there are some other franchises Konami could have plans for. One Konami game that could possibly make for an interesting comeback is Contra. Given the game’s legacy within the shooter genre, a modern reimagining could potentially be a really cool idea.
However, for now, all we can do is speculate and wait. What beloved Konami franchise do you hope will headline the publisher’s Tokyo Game Show 2022 showcase? As always, let us know what you think in the comments!
