Lara Croft creator’s new game Dream Cycle is an “ever-growing” adventure
The game, developed by Cathuria Games and led by Lara Croft creator Toby Gard, launches in Early Access on Steam on September 8th.
At Gamescom 2021, Lara Croft’s original creator Toby Gard unveiled his newest project: an “ever-growing” action-adventure title called Dream Cycle. The first game released by his newly-opened studio Cathuria Games, Dream Cycle is a fantasy game that promises an “infinite adventure” made up of smaller play sessions. With computer-generated worlds and customizable gameplay styles, the game promises an unrivaled sense of scale in its stories and replayability.
With only a small teaser trailer and some screenshots to go on, we don’t know much about the game beyond what Cathuria Games is telling us yet. But if nothing else, the game looks to be an ambitious and potentially huge delve into a fantastical world.

What’s Dream Cycle about?
The game stars arcane apprentice Morgan Carter, who finds herself trapped in a dimension known as the Dreamlands. She’s hunting legendary arcane master Randolph Carter (her great-great-granduncle) who plans to corrupt the power of the Dreamlands and turn himself into a god. Morgan sets off to stop her uncle’s plans and restore the fractured Dreamlands to its former glory.
The story takes inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft’s series of the same name. With the adventure revolving around many small journeys into the dream-like world as it falls apart, we can expect a narrative filled with twists and turns as the Dreamlands become more and more corrupted.
Gameplay-wise, it appears Dream Cycle will center around first-person combat and exploration. Players can pick from a number of different weapons, upgrading them as they play through the adventure. You’ll also be able to traverse the worlds of Dream Cycle through numerous methods — climbing, flying, and teleporting around the game like a magical Lara Croft. And considering Lara Croft’s original creator is the lead designer, that makes a ton of sense.
An “infinite” adventure?
When Dream Cycle launches in Early Access, the game will feature the first major area, the Enchanted Forest. Just with this single map, Cathuria states that there are around “10,000 adventures” for players to experience. It’s not known yet what an adventure means in this context, but apparently, each one will consist of around 10 to 30 minutes of gameplay.
What’s most intriguing about Dream Cycle is how Cathuria vows to create a game that could potentially last forever. According to the Steam page, Dream Cycle is “an ever-growing platform for mystery and adventure. Through regular updates, new realms will become available, introducing new biomes, additional story chapters, weapons, enemies, skills, and powers.” We’ll have to play the game ourselves to see if the game will live up to this promise, but it’s certainly an interesting proposition.
Dream Cycle is developed by Cathuria Games and published by Raw Fury. It will launch on Steam in Early Access on September 6th for $19.99 USD.
