Legend of Mana is getting an anime series from Warner Bros. Japan

Legend of Mana was one of those games that elicited wonderful childhood memories. I spent countless hours with my brother into that game, and we were mesmerized by the beautiful artwork and music featured in the game. In the year 2021, I never expected to be hit with so much Legend of Mana news at once!

Back in February, Square Enix officially announced a remaster of the PS1 classic. Obviously, I was shaking with excitement and my bank account shook with me; I just bought a gaming PC that same month! Legend of Mana was officially released for Nintendo Switch, PC, and PS4 on June 24, 2021 to solid reviews. We actually reviewed it ourselves, so go ahead and check that out.

Not only was LOM released in June, but the Mana series was also celebrating its 30th anniversary. To coincide with the release of the video game and their anniversary, Square Enix announced an anime series for Legend of Mana. Titled Legend of Mana – The Teardrop Crystal, this anime will follow the events of the game.

According to IGN, the anime is “produced by Warner Bros. Japan (production on MADHOUSE’s Mob Psycho 100), Graphinica Inc (Hellsing: The Dawn, Juni Taisen, and Hellsing: Ultimate’s final three episodes) and Yokohama Animation Lab.” Teaser art was released by Square Enix, which you can check out below.

So beautiful

If you have not played The Legend of Mana before, the anime title might be foreign to you. The Teardrop Crystal is one of the more prominent storylines within LOM. I won’t get into spoilers on this article, but the Jumi Arc is definitely one of the more emotional “episode” plots in the game. Mana series producer Masaru Oyamada had this to say about the anime:

“When the animation project was first pitched to me, the remastering of ‘Legend of Mana’ was not even in discussion..I initially attended the meeting without deep thoughts, but when Mr. Yawata from Warner Bros. Japan passionately pitched the ‘Legend of Mana’ animation project (with so much love), I realized I need to created the game as soon as I can. So rumor has it, that’s how the HD remaster project began. Fans of the Legend of Mana, please be assured. The people involved in the project still have the love for the series just the same as back then.”
