Marathon Hype 2020: What is Pole Calibur?
Remember when video game accessories existed for the sole (soul?) purpose of enhancing one or two very specific games? Your closet full of plastic instruments says, “Hello?”
Guitar Hero and Rock Band aside, there was a time when specific controllers magically worked and “enhanced” games. One of those accessories was the Dreamcast fishing controller (yes it is called that rather than fishing rod controller). Believe it or not, that fishing controller works with the Dreamcast launch gem: SoulCalibur, renaming the game as Pole Calibur. So to answer your second question, yes the “Pole still burns!” and I’m going to speak with my doctor about it.
SoulCalibur already made the Dreamcast US launch very strong, and it was hilarious to eventually learn that you can play the entire game using the fishing controller that was released aptly for Sega Bass Fishing. Sillier still, there are a few other games that use the motion-driven controller such as Mr. Driller and Crazy Taxi.
Combining the fishing controller with SoulCalibur results in the only way to end the Dreamcast Dreamless 24-Hour Marathon – with high energy and showcasing one of the console’s best games.
