Early this year, Netflix announced that they would be producing a Tomb Raider animated series alongside Legendary Television. Since then, many have speculated who would take the part of the iconic Lara Croft. On Monday, the answer was revealed: Hayley Atwell will voice Lara Croft in the upcoming show.
Written by Tasha Huo and animated by Castlevania Netflix series studio Powerhouse, the series will center around Lara as she “explores new territory.” Details on the show remain scarce, but the announcement of Hayley Atwell’s casting indicates that more information may be coming soon.
All about Hayley Atwell and her role as Lara Croft
Atwell is most well-known for her role as Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She’s been playing Carter since 2011, including the premiere episode of What If…?, a currently-airing anthology show. Viewers may also recognize her from her roles in the 2015 live-action Cinderella movie and 2018’s Christopher Robin.
Atwell is no stranger to voice acting, either. In addition to What If…?, she reprised the role of Peggy Carter in two episodes of the animated series Avengers Assemble. Outside of Marvel properties, she also starred as Zadra in the Netflix show 3Below: Tales of Arcadia.
In addition to her numerous voice actors in games over the decades, Lara Croft was previously portrayed on-screen by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. Minnie Driver also voiced her in the animated GameTap series Revisioned: Tomb Raider. We can’t wait to see what Hayley Atwell brings to the role of Lara Croft and how the Netflix show will handle one of gaming’s leading ladies.
No word yet on when Netflix’s Tomb Raider series will drop, but we believe it will likely launch in early 2022. We’ll keep you updated as more news about the show goes live.
