Metroid-vania-inspired Ghost Song awakens this November on consoles, PC
Nine years after it was fully-funded on Kickstarter, the wait is nearly over for the backer of Ghost Song. Humble Games and developer Old Moon have announced a released date for the mysterious metroidvania-inspired project.
Ghost Song is slated to make its way to PC, PlayStation 4/5, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One, including a Day One Launch on Gamepass, on Nov. 3, 2022.
Ghost Song release date trailer
A Ghost Song trailer has accompanied the release date announcement, showcasing the strange desolate world, story and gameplay. The trailer begins by showing a strange humanoid synthetic lifeform reawakening, surrounded by a desolate landscape and the wreckage of what appears to be their ship. It’s unknown whether the Deadsuit is a human underneath, a cyborg, or some other unknown artificial lifeform.
The trailer shows the Deadsuit platforming, running up walls, and traversing hostile caverns. Various enemies appear, some being more humanoid than others, and some becoming grotesque monstrosities. One part of the trailer shows an enemy evolving right before the player, proving to be tough to take down. As a Deadsuit with augmented cybernetic components, players can scavenge, customize, and upgrade their capabilities on the go. What mysteries await on the desolate moon of Lorian are a mystery that players must work to uncover.
Final thoughts and release date
Video games are hard, and even though Ghost Song was fully funded, the gaming climate, coupled with a variety of real-world happenings, can hinder the development and progress of a game. By comparison, Iconoclasts took more than seven years to developed, and the acclaimed Axiom Verge was made by a single person, and his dog, in five years. To get this far is a triumph and one worthy of respect.
Ghost Song already has me engaged with its mysterious sci-fi story. On a personal note, I love pretty much anything with robots, cyborgs, synths, androids, A.I, and space. If a game has something along the lines of Ghost In The Shell and humans uploading their consciousness to robot bodies, it already has my attention. In a way, Ghost Song can be compared toto Creature In the Well in that a long mechanical being is mysteriously reawakened to take on a great challenge. In a year where many games are being pushed back to 2023, it’s shaping to be a great way to bookend 2022 in games.
Ghost Song launches for PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on Nov. 3, 2022, with a Day One launch for Gamepass. Ghost Song can be wishlisted here on Steam.
