Mobile rhythm game Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! is getting an English release in 2021

The game, known in Japan as Project Sekai: Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku, is getting a worldwide release this year.

Happy belated birthday, Hatsune Miku! The famed VOCALOID singer first made waves 14 years ago and quickly became a sensation. In celebration of her birthday on Aug. 31st, Crypton and SEGA announced a worldwide English release of the mobile rhythm game Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage!

Peep the announcement trailer below, complete with a super catchy tune called Tell Your World by Livetune and Hatsune Miku:

So what is Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! anyway?

Known in Japan as Project Sekai: Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku, the game initially launched in September 2020 for mobile devices. The title is a rhythm game featuring songs by VOCALOID creators, both their greatest hits and brand new tracks, where players have to tap the screen to the music. The game’s story features Hatsune Miku and a number of original characters going on a “journey to find their heart and music.” Miku herself dresses up in a variety of outfits, giving each performance its own visual flair.

One of the more interesting features of the game was the live concert feature, where players from around the world can watch virtual VOCALOID concerts in real-time. That feature is being brought over for the English release as well.

In addition to the announcement trailer, the developers of the game shared their thoughts on the title and the impending English release. They noted the passionate response from English-language fans and hope that the various genres of music present will appeal to a Western audience.

We don’t currently have a specific worldwide release date, but we know that Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! will arrive this year. A Chinese version is also launching in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau on Sept. 30th.

Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! is developed by Colorful Palette and published by SEGA for iOS and Android. It will launch worldwide in 2021. Get more details on the official site here.
