Mortal Kombat 1 gameplay debuts at Summer Game Fest
Goro will appear as a Kameo fighter!
Today, at Summer Game Fest, NetherRealm Studios revealed its first look at Mortal Kombat 1 gameplay.
The video showcases a fight between Sub Zero and Kung Lao in some fast-paced action. Following the fight, we see a look at a fight with Kenshi with some brutal X-Ray moves. We also see some action between Liu Kang and Scorpion.
The video also reveals a young Raiden, no longer a god like previous entries. He still has his lightning attacks. And the fatality he performs is brutal as ever.
The trailer also shows off some of the Kameo encounters we can expect. Towards the end of the video, we see an insane montage of extremely brutal fatalities. You can also watch the livestream below.
Ed Boon discusses more news on Mortal Kombat 1
Boon explains how the new timeline began with the cannon good ending of Mortal Kombat 11. He explains how Sub-Zero and Scorpion are brothers now, and other characters will have new stories in the brand-new universe.
Explaining the Kameo system, Boon elaborates on how after you choose your character, you’ll also pick from a new roster for Kameo characters who show up in the fight. Essentially, you can combine all of the characters and customize your favorite teams. It isn’t a tag-team thing, but when you push a button, your Kameo fighter will come in to perform a double-team combo.
You won’t be able to use the Kameos indefinitely because there’s a limiting meter. However, you can summon the other fighter whenever you want. A lot of Kameo fighters are callbacks to older games. For instance, Goro appears as a Kameo character.
Boon also confirmed Jean-Claude Van Damme’s appearance in the game. He explains how the actor will even deliver some of Johnny Cage’s lines in the game. Boon ends the segment by foreshadowing future character reveals and announcements soon to come.
