Ever since the release of Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, I waited for a new film to do the series justice. There had been rumors for years about a potential third movie; Some even believed the title was Mortal Kombat: Devastation. When the news of a brand new movie was announced, I jumped all aboard the hype train. The trailer solidified that hype, and with Scorpion mask in tow, I was ready for April 16th.
Well folks, I’ve got some (slightly) devastating news for you. I know you were eager to plop down in your couch with a bowl of popcorn and hear that iconic Techno Syndrome song one more time, but you’re gonna have to wait a little longer. According to Variety, Mortal Kombat is getting pushed back a week.
Now, fans can watch the highly anticipated movie on April 23rd. The delay came right before Godzilla vs. Kong’s release in the west. The blockbuster had done exceptionally well overseas, and Warner Bros. hopes this delay helps the kings of monsters with ticket sales.
Mortal Kombat will premiere both in movie theaters and HBO Max.
