Nacon acquires Daedalic Entertainment in €53 million deal

There must be big plans between these companies.

It seems many companies are continuously taking interest in one another. Recently, Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard, and they’ve done so with other companies such as Double Fine in the past. Now it’s French game company Nacon’s turn once again, setting their sights on the one and only Daedalic Entertainment.

The €53 million Daedalic Entertainment deal

Nacon’s acquired quite a few companies in 2021. Earlier in 2021, Nacon acquired Big Ant Studios, Creature Studios, and Ishtar games. Now they can add a new one to their roster with German company Daedalic Entertainment. You may recognize them from their point-and-click games, as they’ve been around since 2007.

Nacon and Daedalic Entertainment partnered up to publish The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. Their partnership seems to be running well, as Nacon settled on purchasing them for 53 million euros. The deal will take effect sometime in 2022, falling in line with their upcoming game.

For those of you worried Daedalic may be changing, put your fears aside; Nacon plans to allow founder Carsten Fichtelmann to still have autonomy with their development and publishing.

Alain Falc’s statement, Chairman and CEO of Nacon:

“We knew, through our current collaboration on Gollum, that Nacon and Daedalic share the same values and the same objectives to deliver unique experiences to gamers. Therefore, it seemed logical to go further together, and we’re extremely happy of this acquisition. It represents a significant step in Nacon’s strategy.”

Daedalic Entertainment’s future

Their game The Lord of the Rings: Gollum no doubt should be coming soon. After a delay in 2021, the companies have promised it’ll release on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox sometime in 2022. I wish both these companies the best in their new partnership and look forward to seeing what comes from Daedalic Entertainment moving forward. That amount of money is no joke, so Nacon certainly sees something special in them.
