It appears SEGA has come to its senses and will release a new Sonic the Hedgehog title on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as Nintendo’s Wii U. This news comes from a sign that Jazwares had in its booth during a toy fair in Nuremberg, Germany this weekend.
Jazwares is a toy maker that makes many Sonic-related action figures, plushes and other electronics, so they definitely have a link to SEGA and gives this story some credibility.
However, it remains to be seen whether this new Sonic title is the third entry in SEGA and Nintendo’s highly touted partnership or something altogether new. If it’s the former, it will certainly have far-reaching implications. The first being that SEGA has gone back on its agreement with Nintendo to deliver three exclusive Sonic titles to the Wii U, and it’d appear that SEGA has delayed the last game from 2014 until sometime in 2015.
Of course, Sonic: Lost World and Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games have already been released and have disappointed both critically and at retail.
We’ll contact SEGA to see if they’ll comment on the story and will update you once we know more.
