Game Informer revealed an exclusive look at gameplay for Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania yesterday on YouTube.
Alex Stadnik, John Carson and Brian Shea from Game Informer received an early copy of SEGA’s highly anticipated game. In the video, they discuss their history with Super Monkey Ball and play through some early stages of the game. In addition, viewers get the chance to see gameplay featuring Sonic.
The gameplay shown off in the video primarily focuses on the stages from World 2: Volcanic Magma from Super Monkey Ball 2. The remastered versions of these stages look absolutely stunning on modern consoles. Although the HUD has some changes from the original, Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania does a great job staying faithful to the original games. Because of this, fans of the original Super Monkey Ball titles will feel right at home. However, to get a true comparison of the graphical updates, watch this video showing the same world in the original Super Monkey Ball 2.
Fans will also be happy to hear that the game runs very smoothly on all platforms. Throughout the gameplay, the team from Game Informer discuss how it runs, “as smooth as a banana peel.” This hopefully reassures SEGA fans still reeling from the glitchy launch of Sonic Colors: Ultimate.
Speaking of the blue blur, his appearance in the gameplay reveal is certainly a welcome one. Those excited to play as Sonic in Banana Mania will also be happy to hear that he can be unlocked early in the game. According to Game Informer’s video, unlocking Sonic only costs 5,000 of in-game currency.
