You may or may not be familiar with Night Trap, the 1992 interactive movie published for the SEGA CD. Despite mixed reviews, controversy, and being called one of the worst video games of all time, it ported over to other consoles for its 25th anniversary. Controversial things certainly have their place in video game history, and this one is no different. For those of you who are either fans of this bizarre game or never had the opportunity to see it for yourself, the Night Trap Collector’s Edition for PS5 is soon available for pre-order.
Night Trap in all of its weird glory
Take control of a bizarre house of horrors in which a family of vampires and their ghoulish slaves stalk unsuspecting young guests. Your mission? Help Dana Plato rescue these five teenagers by trapping their predators as the roam throughout the property in search of fresh blood. Your lightning-quick decisions are all that stand between the intended victims and an unspeakable fate at the hands of inhuman bloodsuckers.

Why exactly was this game so controversial? Well, it was so problematic that it ended up in the halls of Congress for judgement. They argued it featured gratuitous violence and promoted sexual aggression towards women—despite never having played the game, of course. Slandered by the public, taken to Congress, and slotted with low ratings, Night Trap certainly offers something of a unique experience. Whether that experience is good or not, you’ll be the judge of that.
When can you order it?
The Night Trap Collector’s Edition for PS5 opens up for pre-order tomorrow, July 22, on Limited Run Games. Pre-orders will be open until August 21, so be sure to get your hand on a copy of this before then. If you’re not interested in the Collector’s Edition, you can instead order the single physical copy. No matter what people say (or rather, because of what everyone’s said), you’ll certainly want to check out this strange game.
