Nintendo delays Advance Wars 1+2 remake amid Ukraine crisis
No new release date has been announced yet. This is the game's second delay, though it's for a good reason.
Nintendo has indefinitely delayed the upcoming Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp in light of the current events in Ukraine. As announced on Twitter, Nintendo is pushing the game back in solidarity with the Ukrainian crisis The remake, originally slated for release on April 8, are now on hold following the Russian invasion.
The company hasn’t specify a new release date yet, though Nintendo has promised to keep us updated on the state of the game’s release. Given that it’s predicted that the war won’t end anytime soon, it’s likely that Nintendo won’t wait until hostilities are over. But delaying the game is, ultimately, the right decision.
See Nintendo’s Tweet announcing the delay below:
Advance Wars 1+2 and the crisis in Ukraine
The invasion of Ukraine has prompted developers to shift priorities and pull sales of games and services in Russia. Nintendo is just the latest company to halt operations in Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine. Delaying Advance Wars 1+2 is obviously disappointing, but ultimately, the war in Ukraine is rightfully taking priority.
For Advance Wars, though, there’s likely a more specific reason for this delay — the remake’s second, as it was first pushed back from its original December 2021 release. There’s a faction in the game called the Blue Moon which is an obvious pastiche of the Soviet Union. The game begins with the Blue Moon invading a neighboring territory; releasing the game while Russia’s military invasion is still fresh in our minds is certainly not the best idea.
The decision makes perfect sense for Nintendo in light of the situation. But it’s also funny how this isn’t the first time this has happened for the Advance Wars series. The first Advance Wars launched in North America on Sept. 10, 2001. I don’t need to tell you what happened the next day, but needless to say, the Japanese and European release had to be delay.
