Speculation circulates around the prices of the newly revealed Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack, with some suggesting that it may be because of SEGA.
Currently, the Expansion Pack is set to cost $50 per year for an individual membership and $80 for a family pack, which has up to eight accounts. Just the base price for the Expansion pack is $30 more than the average Nintendo Switch Online membership, which is a lot higher than people seemed to be expecting.
A contributor at Nintendo World Report, Emily Rogers, notes that SEGA might have something to do with it in her tweet regarding the subject. “I heard SEGA were paid very, very well,” Rogers says. The reason why? SEGA wasn’t happy about the Wii’s VC service thanks to the lack of sales, revenue, and marketing, which is why they didn’t go on to support Wii U VC. Rogers also claims that due to the licensing of third-party titles for Genesis NSO, such as Konami and Capcom, the costs are adding up.
Whether what Rogers claims is true or not, rumors continue to circle around the high prices of the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack, which is set to be released on October 25, 2021.
