No Man’s Sky lands on Nintendo Switch this summer
It’s the little game that could. During today’s Nintendo Direct presentation, it was announced that No Man’s Sky, the open universe exploratory game from Hello Games, would be docking on the Switch in Summer 2022. This edition will include every update from the past five years.
No Man’s Sky has a bit of a complicated history. Launching in 2016, the game promised players ever changing landscapes and a playing experience that was never the same twice. Unfortunately, it was… well termite kind of buggy. Big plans, but not much delivery. Thankfully, Hello Games listened to their player-based and worked wonders. No Man’s Sky went from a warning example of too early launch, to winning “Best Ongoing Game” at the TGAs in 2020. Since then, the game has received even more content and a visual overhaul.
A new home for No Man’s Sky
Moving to the Switch has been no easy task. According to developers, a small team has been tirelessly and secretly working on the port to the Switch. As No Man’s Sky was previously made for PC and stationary consoles- PlayStation and Xbox, the game relies on consoles ability to procedurally generate its worlds. Moving into a smaller, portable version took a lot of work and was considered “a real moonshot.”
“There have been so many times where we’ve gone home one day convinced it was impossible, only to have someone stride in the next day with a unique technical solution,” said Sean Murray, Founder and Managing Director of Hello Games in the official statement, today.
Ultimately, the rollercoaster of development paid off. “Every time I pick the Switch up and seamlessly jump from planet to planet, from star system to star system, I have to pinch myself that I am playing on the Nintendo Switch, and that I can take it with me wherever I go,” Murray said.
Murry assures fans that more information and updates will be coming as No Man’s Sky gets closure to release.
