Panzer Dragoon Saturn trilogy coming to VR… with Panzer Saga?!
To mark the 25th anniversary of Panzer Dragoon‘s Japanese release, SEGA made a surprise announcement for Panzer Dragoon: Voyage Record, a virtual reality-enhanced re-release of all three SEGA Saturn titles (Panzer Dragoon, Zwei, and Saga).
Hold the phone! Panzer Dragoon Saga?! The highly sought-after RPG title that really doesn’t make much sense to release in VR? That’s what the official word is for right now, though one has to wonder if the actual third game is the Xbox-exclusive Panzer Dragoon Orta.
The Voyage Record “trilogy” is being developed by Japanese game studio Wildman Inc., and it’s important to note that this release is completely different from Panzer Dragoon Remake coming soon to Nintendo Switch.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Panzer Dragoon games, the series began on SEGA Saturn in 1995. The first two installments are rail-shooters featuring a dragon-riding hero, while Panzer Dragoon Saga was a sprawling RPG that fleshed out the world and mythology of the Panzer universe. Saga was also a very late release for the Saturn, and is highly sought after by collectors, fetching several hundred dollars for at resale sites and shops.
Oddly, no platform was announced for Panzer Dragoon Voyage Record, though it’s being a VR title limits the possibilities quite a bit. Are you pumped? Get pumped! … and get ready to buy a VR headset, ’cause you’re going to need one.
