Persona composer Shoji Meguro announces leave from ATLUS

With news breaking the other day that the Persona franchise has crossed 15 million sales, fans and Atlus are riding high going into the 25th anniversary! Nothing can stop the good vibes from continuing, right? Unfortunately, fans might want to pump the brakes for just a second.

In a video posted to Youtube, Atlus composer Shoji Meguro has announced he is leaving the company to go work on his own game. Meguro also confirms that he will continue to work with Atlus in the future on game projects and soundtracks. You can see the video in full below.

Meguro is a legend among Atlus and video game soundtrack fans. He is responsible for some of the most memorable scores in the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei franchise. He has also directed games before, such as both parts of the Persona 2 remake for the PSP. The idea to get Atlus to agree to let him leave to fulfill his wish of a passion project game is fantastic to see!

I’m sure he’s not lying when he says he is returning to work with Atlus in the future. Given his sensibilities in design and a heavy focus on style in every work he does, I am now curious about his original game getting revealed next week. When announced on November 6th, we will have more information regarding his next title!
