Phantasy Star Nova opens at 2 in Japanese sales charts
While us Americans were busy engorging our bodies with food last week, the Japanese had something to be thankful for that we might never have – Phantasy Star Nova. It released on Nov. 27 in Japan on the PlayStation Vita and quickly shot up the Media Create sales charts selling a whopping 107, 313 copies.
Coming in third place was SEGA’s/Atlus’ Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Knight of Fafnir on the Nintendo 3DS, which released the same day but only sold 59,531 copies.
While Phantasy Star Nova’s sales are certainly good news for SEGA, Hero Bank 2 sadly didn’t fair so well. It only mustered a measly 8,014 units sold. What’s worse is Famitsu is reporting it actually sold about 7,150 copies. Either way, both figures are fewer than the original Hero Bank, which sold 15,000 copies when it released in March last year.
We’ve held out hope SEGA would release both Phantasy Star Nova and Hero Bank 2 in the West. Might SEGA be willing to take the risk on Hero Bank, which has been a commerical flop thus far in Japan with hopes that it will capture an audience in North America, much like Hatsune Miku has? As for Phantasy Star Nova … trolololol!
