Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 coming to current, next-gen consoles just in time for Christmas
The incredibly fun Puyo Puyo Tetris series will continue on as SEGA has announced the sequel will be coming to PlayStation consoles this holiday season.
Officially, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 will arrive on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X on Dec. 8 and on the PlayStation 5 during the “holiday 2020” season.
SEGA said the sequel will feature an all-new story in Adventure mode and will be able to use special item cards for new strategies in the Skill Battle mode.
“Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 embraces both the similarities and differences of the two franchises, molding them together in a way that reinvigorates your gaming experience,” wrote SEGA of America’s Jacob Nahin on the PlayStation Blog. “Both franchises require quick reaction time, agile maneuvers and strategic play. Both require thoughtful planning and quick thinking, but strategy varies.”
“In a constant balancing act between speed and strategy, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 will give players both new ways to play and a chance to revive memorable modes from the previous installment in the franchise,” Nahin continued. “With dynamic character-based skills in the brand-new Skill Battle mode, the ability to journey into the worlds of Puyo Puyo and Tetris with a new story and quirky cast of characters in Adventure mode, and improved online gameplay, we can’t wait to see what the community can achieve in Puyo Puyo Tetris 2.”
There’s no word on exactly why the PS5 version won’t release on the same date as the rest of the consoles, including the Xbox Series X, but we’ll be sure to keep you up to date once we learn more.
