Retro Highway is a 16-bit style racer that roars onto PlayStation

Get ready to rev it up retro style this weekend. Gearhead GamesRetro Highway has roared into PlayStation’s online store. The 16-bit style racer takes players through six different environments including farmlands, deserts and cities. Obstacles like debris and traffic line the tracks creating a difficult path for those who travel it.

Along with highway racing, there are unique challenges and dangerous stunts to perform for points. Imagine a retro Trials and you’ve got a good feel for Retro Highway.

Customizable bikes fill your garage, each upgradable with various powerups. Although it is not co-op, leaderboard scores are accessible for players to try to beat. Collect coins in a call back to arcade games of yore as a way to unlock even more tracks and new bikers.

Starting off as a mobile app for Android and IOS, Retro Highway’s first port was to Xbox One and Series X/S in October 2021, followed by Nintendo Switch in November. The apps are still available and free for download. The console versions clock in at 60fsp and retail at $5.99 USD. If you decide to grab the PS5 version today, advanced vibration and trigger effects are included.

The tiny development studio of just two people, Gearhead Games is also working on a new project that appears to be centered around a robot and filled with more retro style fun.
