Roger Craig Smith continues to voice Sonic in future games
Back in January, Sonic voice actor Roger Craig Smith announced his departure from the franchise. For over ten years, Craig Smith lent his voice to Sonic in video games and television, starting with Sonic Free Riders and Sonic Colors. He also voiced Sonic in the super popular Sonic Boom TV series. He tweeted out a slightly vague message, saying:
Welp, 10 years was an amazing run. Onward to new zones! Much love to the fans who’ve been so kind. It’s been an honor.

Earlier today, it looks like SEGA and Roger slightly changed course. While there was no mentioned of any television shows, he did state his return back to Sonic video games.
Many people responded to his tweet, poking fun at the sudden change of heart from just four months ago. It’s not really certain what happened between January and May, but we’re glad to see him back! With rumors of a Sonic Colors remaster on the horizon and a brand new game, we wouldn’t have anyone else at the hedgehog helm. Well, maybe Ben Schwartz.
Tomorrow, SEGA will host an all-Sonic stream at 12:00 PM EST on YouTube. SEGA will officially reveal some of their upcoming projects, partnerships, and events for Sonic’s 30th anniversary. It should be an exciting event, so stay tuned right here on Mega Visions!
