Rumor: Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster on the horizon for playtesting
A new playtest survey sent out by Eidos-Montréal indicates there may be a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster in the works.
Rumor has it that there may be a potential Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster in the works. Indicated in a playtest survey sent out by Eidos-Montréal, a developer subsidiary of Square Enix, the survey asks multiple questions regarding Final Fantasy Tactics.
Eidos-Montréal playtests different Square Enix games, with this survey indicating they’re mainly looking at playtesting tactical games. Reddit user u/DrNanard posted a screenshot of the survey in their excitement after receiving a playtest invitation, noting they also asked about a few more game series they have played. .
There seem to be many different crossovers of tactical games on the survey. DrNanard notes this means the survey could’ve been related to the new Triangle Strategy game; however, Octopath Traveler wasn’t included on the list, so that theory seems unlikely. Twitter user Nibellion shared the post as well, also noting that Ogre Battle was asked about a couple times in the survey, leaning into the potential of new remasters being playtested.
There’s quite a few games on this list, so there may even be more remasters to look forward to than just the Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster (I see you, Fire Emblem.)
The original Final Fantasy Tactics came out in 1997 and was met with critical acclaim; it wouldn’t be surprising if Square Enix wanted to bring this famed game back to the spotlight. Considering Square Enix’s record of remastering other classic Final Fantasy games, such as Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy X, fans may see another old favorite coming back with the Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster.
