RUMOR: Metroid Prime remastered is coming to Switch
According to Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb, a remastered Metroid Prime is launching this holiday season for the Switch.
At this point, Metroid Prime is essentially the Nintendo fanbase’s white whale. The long-anticipated Metroid Prime 4 continues to have zero new details about it, with Nintendo and Retro Studios maintaining essentially radio silence for the past few years. And then there’s the tantalizing rumors that the Metroid Prime trilogy will be remastered for Nintendo Switch.
We have another suggestion that those remasters are happening now. Jeff Grubb, Giant Bomb reporter and industry insider, indicated that Nintendo will soon announce a remaster of Metroid Prime for the Switch. It’s apparently going to launch this holiday season, with remasters of 2 and 3 following after.

Behind the Metroid Prime Switch rumors
Rumors around a Metroid Prime trilogy remaster for Switch have been happening for years now. Metroid fans know all too well the dangers of getting their hopes up, but the massive success of Metroid Dread might just well be the beginning of a Metroid renaissance. On the rumored announcement of Metroid Prime Remastered, Grubb stated:
I can say that I’ve been told pretty definitively that Metroid Prime Remastered is going to be one of their big holiday games. In the past, I’ve heard this is something that was in the works, they have things happening with that game. Now I’ve been told their plans are to release that game this holiday, I think almost certainly to line up with the 20th anniversary in November.
Jeff Grubb, Giant Bomb correspondent
Grubb and co-host Rachel Kaser also discussed other Nintendo-related news and insights on the show. According to him, a full Nintendo Direct event focused on first-party titles could happen in July. Apparently, Nintendo’s plan wasn’t to do a big E3 show this year, but rather a series of small events (like the Partner Showcase Mini Direct today) leading up to a bigger event. We’re obviously taking that with a grain of salt, as Grubb himself isn’t even sure about that.
Are you hoping to see Metroid Prime arrive on Switch this year? When do you think Metroid Prime 2 and 3 will launch? Let us know!
