Rumor: Ubisoft could release a new small-scale Assassin’s Creed soon
A standalone stealthy Assassin's Creed seems to be in the works!
Under the codename Rift, Bloomberg claims it will star an Assassin’s Creed Valhalla character, Basim. Also, it seems the title was an expansion to the existing AC Valhalla before becoming a standalone game last year. As of now, there’s a rumored release date for later this year or in 2023.
Despite not knowing the reason behind its change, we do know that Rift will reportedly focus on small-scale stealth gameplay. Its smaller scope could also mean there won’t be a large open-world with RPG elements compared to recent franchise entries. However, its benefit is that Rift seems to take notes from older AC games that many Ubisoft gamers cherish to this day.
A Ubisoft spokesperson couldn’t relay anything about the project, though. They told Bloomberg they won’t comment on rumors or speculation because it is “a disservice to [their] development teams and community.”
Although, the spokesperson did offer insight on what to expect from Ubisoft soon:
“[We have a] solid and exciting line-up of titles in our pipeline, both established brands with new story twists and features, and brand new IPs that will continue to change the landscape of today’s video games.”
In light of speculation over a new standalone Assassin’s Creed, are you curious if Ubisoft is finally going back to the roots of the series? Let us know!
