Rumor: Warner Bros. crossover platform fighter is in development
A user on Reddit claimed that a new platform fighter featuring characters from multiple Warner Bros. properties is in development.
Just a few weeks ago, Nickelodeon and GameMill Entertainment brought us Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, a platform fighter featuring characters from multiple past and present Nickelodeon shows as fighters. It very obviously imitated the gameplay of Super Smash Bros. but with its cartoon cast and nostalgic bend, it immediately caught everyone’s attention.
Now, another media company seems to be stepping into the platform fighter ring. According to the latest rumors, a Warner Bros. crossover platform fighter is in the works.
The rumor comes from a user on r/GamingLeaksandRumors on Reddit who claims that NetherRealm is working on the title for WB Games. While NetherRealm’s involvement in the title was quickly debunked by insider Jeff Grubb, there is some evidence that the game is happening.
What you need to know about the rumored Warner Bros. platform fighter
According to Reddit user hugeleakeractually (this is a burner account, allegedly), WB Games is developing a platform fighter based on Smash Bros. that features characters from multiple Warner Bros. properties. The user also points to the fact that Warner Bros. registered the trademark for MULTIVERSUS — which may or may not be related to the game.
Characters detailed in the leak include Shaggy from Scooby-Doo, Gandalf from Lord of the Rings, Tom and Jerry, Batman, Fred Flinstone, Mad Max, and Johnny Bravo. Harry Potter and Ron Weasley from Harry Potter are also suggested to have been worked on at some point, but due to rights issues, development on them has seemingly halted. The most interesting detail is that the game supposedly focuses on a tag team element. The leaker speculates that players can choose custom teams with some character combinations having more synergy than others.
It’s important to understand that all of the information on this game comes from a single user on Reddit. That is not enough to immediately discredit it, but until we receive any official word, it’s best to take this all with a grain of salt.
If the Warner Bros. platform fighter rumor is true, who do you want them to add? Let us know!
