SEGA celebrates Sonic’s 30th birthday with heartfelt, fan video messages
SEGA and Sonic the Hedgehog have been celebrating the blue blur’s 30th anniversary all year long. Not every plucky, iconic mascot and video game character gets to tout such a long lifespan. Does anyone know what happened to Gex or Croc? Me neither. For over 30 years, Sonic has graced our game consoles with memories that would last a lifetime.
SEGA was not holding back with their Sonic-themed birthday announcements either. This week, Two Point Hospital fans can dress up their doctors and nurses as Sonic, Tails, Amy, and Knuckles. Cure a multitude of diseases while looking like you just walked out of a furry convention. Fans who missed Sonic Colors the first time can get their hands on the Ultimate Edition in September. Colors is one of the better reviewed games from recent history, and we can’t wait to get our hands on it.
Oh, and let’s not forget up that brand new Sonic game from SEGA that’s coming next year. Did we mention the luxurious watches and diamond-encrusted gold necklaces with your favorite characters? There is just so. Much. Stuff! To round out this barrage of birthday bash news, SEGA published a 30th birthday video with messages from some of the biggest names in the community.
In the video (which you can check out above), you can see a whole montage of community members sharing their fondest memories of the hedgehog. Many discuss their first Sonic game, favorite soundtracks, and enviable collections. It’s quite a sight to behold. Great idea SEGA, and Happy Birthday Sonic!
